Looks like Texas Monthly has come out with a list of the "Top 50 Burgers in Texas", and it's kicking up all sorts o' local controversy!  TM isn't posting the list on its site (you have to subscribe to the mag), but Nancy Nichols first posted the list locally on SideDish, then Eats Blog cut and pasted it, and TG went the extra mile on PegNews posting the list with links to all the local places listed (nice job, you win No. 1 linker in Texas!).  Judging from the blog comments, plenty of people are steamed that their fav place didn't make the list.

My two cents: I love The Grape (No. 1) but didn't even know they had a burger, like the atmosphere at Twisted Root (No. 15) but the burgers are way overrated, and Snuffer's is in the top 3 in Big D for me but somehow barely makes the list at No. 46.  Also, Angry Dog, Chip's and Wingfield's all deserve to be mentioned in any list compiling the best burgers around these here parts.  But, hey, that's what these lists are made for -- generating buzz and selling mags.  Still, [cue theatrical music] wouldn't it be better if there was some type of, I don't know... court where a jury of our peers could determine once and for all whose burger reigns supreme?  Hmmmmmmmm...  Anyhoo, which places in the greater DFW mega-metroplex and elsewhere in Big Texasland do you think shoulda made the list? Feel free to sound off in the comments or vote in our poll.

UPDATE: Turns out DFW.com is running a Best Burger in DFW bracket contest.  D Mag did something similar a few years back, and their winner, Wingfield's, may well have the best burger in town.  But the problem with the bracket-style system for judging burgers is it eliminates worthy burgers in a close competition but allow other burgers to skate through in an easy bracket.  I think every burger should be judged on its own merits and not arbitrarily matched up against one another.  Yep, it's about time court was in session.
